API Specification - API is the abbreviation for American Petroleum Institute. API was founded in 1919 and is a national business association in the United States, as well as one of the earliest and most successful chambers of commerce in the world.

The API Mark is the secretariat of the American Petroleum Institute for studying product marks, established in 1924, aimed at evaluating machines and materials produced and providing manufacturing enterprises that comply with the API quality system and product standards. This logo is registered in the United States and is not allowed to be used by anyone without permission. An important task of API is to undertake the standardization of oil and gas industry machinery to ensure the safety, reliability, and interchangeability of commonly used machines in the industry. The development of coordination standards is one of the early and successful projects of APIz. Since the gradual publication of a standard in 1924, API has released 500 standards. API is a standard setting organization recognized by ANSI, and its standard setting follows ANSI's coordination and procedural rules. API also collaborates with ASTM to develop and publish specifications. In addition, API actively participates in establishing ISO standards suitable for global industries and serves as the secretariat for ISO/TC671SC9 wellbore equipment and pipeline valves.

API specifications are often synonymous with "security and stability".

The API682 specification - comprehensive for machine sealing and sealing supply, has been widely used and is still being introduced beyond industrial applications. The author of the new API682 standard emphasizes that the new standard has never considered the application scope outside of industry, and clarifies the application areas of the API682 standard, which only apply to the sealing system of pumps and not to mixers or compressors. This specification applies to the petrochemical and (crude oil) chemical industry, and is not applicable to power supply or food enterprises.
